A new programme: puppy seminar!

crop-cimg6549-en1.JPG

We started a new programme in March: The puppy seminar for breeders and future owners of their puppies. The content is adaptable, whether it is held before the puppies are taken home by the new owners or it`s hapenning during a puppy reunion when the new owners already have many questions. If you are interested in organizing such an educational day, please contact me. The programme will be personalized for each breeder - here are just a few ideas on what we can speak about: how the dog percieves the world and what are the main differencies between dog and human, basic health care, breed educational, care and health specifics, etc., discussion of questions and practical excersizes.

Weekend in Florence, Italy - work and pleasure

1cimg6290.JPG

Tana and I made a trip to Florence, Italy on the 30th and 31st of January for the annual assembly of the Italian Rhodesian Ridgeback Club. There was a 5 hour drive, but friends and their ridgies were all waiting for us!

1cimg6292.JPG

After the Saturday formalities, we did a nice walk through the city centre of Florence. The sun was shining, but we still needed Tana`s coat for the winter breeze.

It was quite spectacular to see so many ridgies wandering through the historical Florence. People were very interested in this unusual breed and they asked many questions. Hopefully, by answering we contributed to their knowledge of this particular breed, it`s characteristics and especially it`s needs.

I also had the opportunity to meet and discuss behavioral matters with Lucia Occhionorelli, DVM, behavioral expert who lives and works in Padova and Vicenza.

A typical view of Florence.

Simba, Momo and Philippo in their new homes - update

rob__friend1.jpg Simba and Rob

With the RRCI (Italian rhodesian ridgeback Club) we express our grattitude to everybody who tried to help and called for the homeless ridgies. Simba found his home some time ago and stayed in Italy. He lives with Rob, Pauline and their dog Nell and feels great.  His sister Asia also feels better. The former owner Anna is now able to dedicate herself fully to her sparkling and strong personality and they have made great progress together.

Momo is now a slovenian citizen. He moved to a wonderful place called Kostanjevica na Krki. He gets along great with his new owner Aleš, and Momo keeps him company even at work. I will visit them soo (I can`t wait!), so more news to come later on. Here is one of the numerous pictures Aleš has sent me of Momo in his new home.

Finding a home for Philippo was tough. Everybody who was involved in the rehoming, including me, were sad by the fact, that all the phone calls were for the playful and lively Momo and nobody asked for Philippo. I am not sure, maybe it was more difficult because of his age. But at last the hopes evolved into facts also for the poor Philippo. A family from Germany came to pick him up finally from the shelter where he was really really sad.

A big thanks again to everybody! We did it together!

Is there anybody who can help us find new homes for these two ridgies?

Friends from the Italian Rhodesian Ridgeback Club (RRCI) have asked me for help. We have two rhodesian ridgeback to rehome: the 14 month old Momo and almost four years old Philippo. momo-sh.JPG

Momo is just over a year old rhodesian ridgeback. His owner got terminally ill, is in the hospital and, sadly, will never come back home again. Momo was placed in a shelter, but soon afterwards an owner`s relative showed up and took him home. Unfortunatelly she is not able to keep him permanently. Momo currently spends his day in her backyard and nights in the garage. He is confused, sad and need a friend to relate to, someone to be happy with, as soon as possible!

Philippo is almost four years old, castrated and homeless because of a new baby in the family. He got jelaous and the owners couldn`t cope with it anymore. He ended up in a shelter. He is of a stable but strong temperament and he needs an experienced person who will accept him and include him in the family. For more information please contact me.

A happy new year 2009 with the laboratory beagles!

saracrop.jpg

The merry december has turned its page and we enterd the 2009. Vesele tačke wishes everybody a happy and successful new year!! This year, Sara was the messenger of our best wishes. (with a little help from us: Maja, Jure and Karmen printed the card (thank you!) and I wrote a few words on behalf of Sara). Besides the wishes the card is also a reminder of the still on-going experiments on animals, in this case - dogs.

Sara, who really enjoyed the snow covered streets today, and ran around like she was at least ten years younger, was involved in experiments. Even though, at least not that I am aware of, the experiments on dogs do not exist anymore in Slovenia, I found an ad in a german dog magazine, while I was waiting at the Frankfurt airport, about the rehoming of the former laboratory beagles.  When I arrived home, I opened the internet right away and checked the internet site right away. I found out, that Tiere in Not Ennepetal e. V. (1) was founded by a small group of people, who have put all their energies in rehoming mostly dogs (but also a small percentage of other animals) formerly involved in laboratory testing.
